The Hot Mess Race Team (HMRT) was founded by Art Waggoner and Keagan Stolhand in May of 2016. Keagan and Art meet while training for IRONMAN Tahoe and IRONMAN Louisville in Chappell Hill. They realized there was a real need for a real TEAM. By the end of 2016, the team had grown from two members to over 50 amazing athletes. Their vision for the team was to create an atmosphere where athletes, on all levels, could train together. As an added bonus, the team has developed a social network where friendships are formed and training partners develop.
Hot Mess is a group of athletes that range from beginners to experienced Kona IRONMEN, who are committed to a common goal. While each athlete has his or her own personal reason for becoming an athlete, we all want to find our potential and hit a new PR. While we are dedicated to the sport and getting stronger as athletes, we also believe that the social aspects are beneficial to our training success. When you join, you will gain access to the team’s Facebook page. Here, we discuss weekly workouts as a team, personal achievements, upcoming events, impromptu and scheduled team swims (pool and open water), group rides or spin classes, group runs and workouts and possibly a happy hour get together.
We have members at all of the local gyms that have a pool. Weekly, groups will post a workout and show up for a pool workout together. In addition, when the weather permits, we have regular open water swims each week.
Each week we have a group long ride on Saturday. Throughout the week, several rides are available as members post through Facebook. When daylight permits, we have a regular DITCH THE TRAINER road interval workout with a brick run.
Weekly long group runs and speed work are posted regularly through our Facebook page.
